We have a whole house water filter in the crawlspace under our house. The cap of the filter has cracked and leaks ferociously unless we turn the pump off. When we tried to disconnect the filter system to replace it we were dismayed to find out that the plastic filter has been glued to the copper pipe at the fittings making it impossible to remove by hand or with a wrench.

Do we have any other options than cutting the pipes and putting on new fittings?

Many, many thanks in advance!

Epoxied perhaps? Are you sure this isn't a sweat to plastic adapter. Can you post a pic?

It probably is epoxied. Unfortunately I can't get a picture right now because the charger for my camera is M.I.A. I know it is an Omni filter, possibly a model OB1, OB5, or U25 (I'm not sure if my dad installed it or if the plumber did). I will send my son back under there tomorrow to see if he can get any more information.

Thanks!

OB 1 is thread fit, blue plastic, 3/4 pipe NPT. OB5 is the same in clear plastic. OB1 is what I have at my GA mountain cabin. Mine is 1" PVC from the well, 1" PVC to 3/4 pipe adapter, 3/4 brass nipple, 3/4 SS ball valve, 3/4 brass nipple into the filter body, 3/4 NPT Sharkbite to 3/4 CPVC on the output.
