I am a manager in a field office w/in my company. I have been in this position for 2 years now. I have never traveled outside of my state for work. Last week I was asked to travel to Africa for a project which includes work that I am the only person in my company who has experience. I am salaried and an exempt employee. What if any compensation should I expect or ask for?

None. It's part of your job, and since you are salaried you cannot expect overtime pay. About all you should consider is asking if you can take some time off after you get back.

Agree, they pay for your housing and most meals while you are there. Plus cost of travel. You do not get extra pay for this. I traveled the world, with my work. I got my paycheck, and company paid my travel expenses.
One note... be sure to address health care issues, since if you are from US, most health insurance plans are not valid outside the US.
