About three months ago we started to hear banging noise late at night, the noise is coming from the loft upstairs. We cannot find any reasonable explanation for the banging noise, so I would like to know if anyone has died in my apartment?

News archives from the library is a start. Have you talked to the landlord, or maintenance man to eliminate the obvious physical causes of such a noise?

Unless the apartment is very new, you can probably assume that someone has died in the apartment. If the death was prominent it might hit the news, otherwise the only source would be the landlord.

I think the most accurate thing you can do to find out about the real history of a place is to talk to those around it. Perhaps some neighbors have been in the area for some time and may know a thing or two about what went on in your home.
