I was trying to get a hold of my friend for hours and finally he replied to me late at night saying he was in jail. Is that even possible to send that message since he's in jail and you can't use cell phones in jail? Just wondering because it's a little fishy. So I can't tell if he's lying to me or if you can use your phone to tell people your in jail?

Yeah...generally things like that get removed from you when you go to jail.

Hmmm that's weird then so they can't send you one text saying there in jail?

Usually not.

In all my years, if they are actually arrested or being held, they will not have any cell phone in lock up.

If they are just in a room being questioned, they would have their cell phone often.

But, if they were being held, he would have paper work to show you

Well I have no idea what's going on he just messaged me saying he was in jail and that was the last I heard from him. So I really hope he's not lying to me.

I'd want to see proof. As was pointed out... once he's arrested, or in a holding cell... he's not going to have possession of the phone or able to use it. Unless he just happened to know he was GOING to be arrested and did it before he was.

My guts telling me he's feeding you a line of crap. But it will be easy enough for him to prove he actually was. With Paperwork as was mentioned.

I don't even know where he is staying or when he will be out. Or why he would be in jail. He has done things in his past, but I think he would have been in jail way earlier than that. He hasn't answered me back since then so I don't know what's going on. Would the cops say something if I keep messaging him or will they not say anything at all.

THey wouldn't know.. the phone would be turned off and in a box with all his personal effects and clothes.

All right so if his phone is on then he's lying then right?

Well his phone is off so maybe he is telling the truth

He could have turned it off... time will tell, see if he's got papers when you see him next... phrase like you are curious what they look like... rather than saying prove it to you. If he blows you off... I think you have your answer. If he really was and shows you... he shouldn't be upset how you asked to see them.

All right thanks I will do that whenever the next time I hear from him.

Normally a person in jail, will say, I was arrested by the (name of police) and I am in the (name of jail)

But as noted before, no, once arrested, all of his belongings are locked away. (perhaps after being searched. If this had to do with drugs, they down load his phone list and check it out. Along with checking messages on it.

I'm wondering why this is a concern of yours. Clearly that a friend is in jail is worrisome, but why would you think he would lie to you about it? Why don't you wait until he contacts you again to get the whole story? Are you sure the text was sent from his phone and not someone else's?

Yes it was sent from his phone or else it would have been a different number. It's just a concern because I don't know how long he will be in there. Could be weeks or months before I will see him again. I don't know it just seemed odd that he texted me that he's in jail that's all.

If he has been jailed and not allowed bail, you can check with the courts and find him. He should still be in a local lockup until brought to trial.
