Hello, I'm Amanda and am new to this help desk so I hope I get my question across clearly, but first here is some background info that may be helpful: live in apartment building that has 4 apartments all ground level and all identical just rotated around, adjoining hallway is where all apartments piping, water heaters and softners meet and are located. All apartments have 1 bathroom with toilet, sink, bath/tub and 1 kitchen, no washing machine but wasn't discouraged as long as it was apartment size. Septic system, but somehow is shared or connected to the house next to us, not sure if we share a tank and leachbed with them or if we have separate tank and only share leachbed. Tank is pumped twice a year. All households have 3-5 people and all apartments are occupied. Lived here 10 years, in the last year 2 apartments decided to install washing machines, and now I have noticed the following problems but not sure what, why, how...
-Constantly see small air bubbles coming up into the toilet bowl.
-Large air bubbles popping and splashing water out of the toilet bowl, especially when I hear the neighbor flush her toilet.
-Inconsistent water temp and pressure, drastic change in pressure.
-Slower draining in sinks and tub.
-Each apartment has experienced sewage backup in our tubs, but not at the same time and not consistent with any issue regarding extra rain or snow melting. Eventually it went down but still gross!

What could be causing all these issues and only in the last year have they started, but the problems are gradually getting more frequent and worse?
Can the problem be fixed?
How do I explain to the landlord that it is a problem that may need more addressing than "just dump some drain opener and it should help"?

Hi Amanada and welcome... Befor we can help we need to know your drainage layout, Who's connected to who an d does each apartment have its own grease trap on the kitchen/washer drain line. Because if they're not the there's your problem. The lint, grease and garbage, unless it's trapped will get out in the drain field and clop it up giving you the problems you now have. Contact the owner and get back with the information I need. Back to you. Tom
