My meter is running a gallon every 2 minutes with no water on in the house. I checked for seepage and there is none. When I cracked open the valve on my side of the meter it started running immediately. Could the meter be broken?

No the meter isn't broken... it can't register water moving past it if no water is moving past it. You almost certainly have a leak between the meter and the main shutoff valve in your house that you turned off. You did turn that valve off when you determined nothing in your house was using water? If you didn't then locate it and do it and see if it stops or not. If it does stop after shutting that main valve inside the house, check all your toilets.

How far is the meter from the house? You can have a rather large leak before you will notice wet areas, particularly if you live in a dry area. Also depending on the soil composition in your area.

Hello Pmudgett,

Here is how to check your water system for leak, see the image below if you have the small indicator running it shows that you have a small leak to isolate that you have a leak inside the house or from the meter to your house, close the main shut off the valve to your house if the small indicator still running it show that the leak is from the meter to the house if not you have leak inside the house, let us know when you do this check, Thanks.
