I am turning 17 years old and my mom has signed a paper called Power of Attorney. She has been desperately signing this paper to people she doesn't even know but I know. So doesn't that technically mean that she already gave away her rights as a parent? I am so confused I just want to move away without my mom trying to force me to continue with the P.O.A. Can someone please help me??

Nope, until you are of the age of legal emancipation (many places that is 18) and you have moved out on your own then while your still in her house your under her rules.

You have to listen to your mom.

A power of attorney does not sign away any rights. A power of attorney merely allows someone to act on her behalf, in certain issues. If she is not present.

It can be done for medical care. ( normally not for registering in school, the parent must be there for that)

Suck it up until you turn 18, get a job, move out and support yourself... then you can do what you want. Assuming you have the time and any money left over to do it.

As long as you live in your mothers house... SHE makes the rules... no matter how old you are. And it IS her house... not yours. So grow up and listen to your mother. You are going to find out very, very soon how easy you have had life up until now.

The day you turn 18, nobody has to give you a dime, give you a place to stay, or give you anything to eat... including your parents. SO wise up or on your 18th birthday, you might find yourself locked out of the house...with no place to stay, no job to buy food or anything. THats the real world. Not the fantasy world most teenagers live in.

I'm not sure what a POA has to do with anything. A POA is a document that empowers someone else to act in legal matters for the signee. So your mom signing a POA shouldn't affect you.

But as noted, until you reach the age of majority, normally 18, you are under the control of your parents.
