Firstly many thanks to SCOTT GEM if your reading this you cetainly are one.

My question, we cannot get a proper ADSL signal/for broadband internet: at our new home in Colchester essex england/UK CO3 8WR or L... our neighbours seem to be able to get it but we can't.

British Telecom have been ignoring my dad over this issue... so if anyone out there that works for BT or London Trading Standards is it possible that some backsides could be kicked to help us out.

Can anyone tell me how to get round the problem as it is affecting our homework for school:::
We are paying the same money for dial-up contract as we would be a broadband contract so money is not the issue:::

If anyone knows anybody at NTL/Virgin Cable... Please Sir Richard can you continue the cable network to our house... it stops at the top of the road where the last builds where...

Don't bother with bt or cable Twang.net is a first class broadband provider with the best support service in the country 8mb available in your postcode you need your MAC code for a free transfer of service and twang will show you what service and speed is all about

BA, Nice advert there, but I have to completely disagree with.
For starters you sites availability checker is WRONG.
I checked my post code and was informed that The best I could get is a mere 1 Mb.
Interesting as I'm happily running 10 Mb ADSL 2+.

One of the best Independent site I have found for checking availability is The Broadband Resource (http://www.samknows.com).

How far is your neighbour from you?

One of the "cons" with dsl, is that the farther you are away from the Telco central office, the lower your speeds becomes. Your neighbour may be closer so his service is acceptable. Existing telephone wiring quality has an affect also.

As an example, I have 2 friends within 3km of my house. One guy, who is closer to me, gets excellent dsl speeds, the other was unacceptable. Me? I'm getting dsl service next week for 1 month free, and will find out myself. :)
