Have a 2009 Husqvarnas YTH2146 with the Kohler courage 21HP engine SV610. The engine is toasted with a cracked block and connecting rod in pieces. I was wondering whether it makes sense to buy a new engine at 900 dollars and do some other repairs or just cut my losses and buy a new riding lawn mower. The rest of the unit is working at this time.
Rebuild or start over?
Thanks

Hi,
Another option would be a short block for about 2/3 that price. It includes all the moving parts in and of the block itself new. That would be the crank, cam, rod(s), piston(s), etc. It involves the swapping of the external parts from the old engine to the new block including the heads, ignition, carb, etc. Comes with the gaskets to perform the task.
Peace,

You can put any engine you want in there. Any kohler will work. I have changed 17 teens for 15.5s Heck find 15.5 to 16.5 Somewhere try to find used. Older Kohlers run for ever.
