A one year old Kenmore Elite model 665.127, no longer cleans pots/pans. In addition, other dishes that have residual waste are no longer getting clean. The lower trap has been cleaned numerous times with no apparent affect.

Have you tried changing soap, modifying your pre-wash, or checking your hot rinse temperature?

If you open the door while it is in the middle of the wash cycle, is there plenty of water in there? You should have water dripping from the racks and there should be at least an inch of water in the bottom of the dishwasher. I just fixed an older one that had very little water in it. The problem was the inlet valve was worn out and didn't allow enough water in to clean properly. If you do have plenty of water, then it is something else.

Just a thought,

Here is a manual: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8010163/Kenmore_Ultrawash_Dishwasher.pdf
You probably have a water level control problem due to a worn-out valve. Water level valves only last about 2-3 years, and if you have hard water then it needs to be cleaned or changed more often.

Have you inspected the spray arms to see if debris is blocking the holes in them? This, more often than not, is the reason that dishwashers no longer clean as they should. Despite what some manufacturers tell you to the contrary, you should always give dishes a quick pre-rinse in the sink before putting them in the dishwasher. If the holes in the spray arms are plugged, you can sometimes clear them with a pair of needle nose tweezers. If you can't remove the debris that way, then removal of the spray arms will be necessary so you can back flush the debris from the holes.

That is a good suggestion. I would remove the arms and clean them.
