I know Shachi who is now CEO of her own very profitable company. She used to be my library volunteer and had no job or money. She had come to the US with her husband on a work visa. So, your parents are incorrect. Success has nothing to do with a name. Shema is a nice name. More important than your name is what education you get and what skills you have -- and how well you will use them.

Pure silliness, there are people who do well with any name. Having a certain name has little to do with your future. What matters is what you do to achieve and do well.

People who want to blame failure on names or dates, are merely looking for reasons to not accept responsibility for their own failures

That's their mistake, why they choose this name for you, and If you believe anything can happen so why don't you don't believe in those myths! You have a good name. But if they force you can choose SEEMA, SNEHA, etc.

You haven't said how old you are or if you share your parents' belief. This is an extremely personal decision. Your name is part of your identity.

Do you like your name? Do you want to change it?

If you like your name, keep it. If you don't, then think about what you would prefer to be called.

Who told your parents that?

You can find many successful women who have a name starting with "Sh". Women with very good careers, women with very happy families, and women who are very pleased with their lives.

I think you should stick to what you want - if you want to keep your name, you need to say it and keep your position. What if this person will tell them that brunettes are unlucky, you will then need to dye your hair? Speak up and try to explain what you feel and try to negotiate.
