Hi,
I am 15 years old girl & I am also looking for a speech therapist .I am desperately in need of it as my voice is unclear and it sounds like mumbling.

What is your general location and have you sought the advice and help of your parents/teachers or school official? I would imagine you need both for a successful search.

If you are in America or Canada talk to your school, most have them on staff or contracts. Or can recommend.

But it is something your parents need to discuss.

I live near by hara panda in riyadh.I do get lots of advise from teacher& Parents [like give gap b/w two sentences ,read lots of books slowly & loudly.etc]but I haven't improved a bit. I live in sudia Arabia. My family is used of hearing me like this so now they can understand me. I don't speak much outside my house.

Ask a teacher or leader at your school for outside resources if they don't have a speech therapist at your school. You can also speak to your doctor and definitely let your parents know how much you feel that this is a concern for you. There are centers in Riyadh that offer speech therapy.

If your school does not provide speech therapy, ask your family doctor. They can recommend someone to help you. It may cost money, but most speech therapists will give you things to work on at home.

We don't have any family doctor. I go myself to different hospitals according to my need. My parents have other things to worry about.I am asian so I have to deal with my problems. DoulaLC tell me if you know any speech therapist . About money I don't have to worry because I have encurance from government for any medical need.

Do you have a good friend who speaks English? If so, read to her. Read with good accent and articulation and a normal-sounding voice. Read out loud those children's books whereby you can imitate animal sounds and change your voice for the various characters. Or even read books in your native language (Hindi? or a dialect?). The main thing to do is read TO someone who can judge your voice and improvement.

Ask someone at your school for the name of a speech therapist near to you. You can also do a simple search online... speech therapist in Riyadh... should bring up some choices.

It sounds like you are scared to talk to your parents about this. Why? No being Asian is not an excuse, in fact most Asian parents would be more than willing to help their child with their speech.
