I have an 11month old Shih a Tzu and I notice he's eating once or twice a day and if I hand feed him... I would like to know if this is normal I'm very concern about him..

No it is not normal to hand feed a dog, very bad habit to start. Put his food down so he can eat normally. Dogs will never go hungry, so if he isn't catching on right away, don't worry about it. You are spoiling your dog.

How much are you feeding him at each meal? What are you feeding him? The higher quality the food the less he will need to stay healthy. Is he drinking, playing and using the bathroom as normal?

If you are using his food as treats/rewards or giving him other types of treats (which should be limited), subtract that amount from his meals.

Shih Tzus are supposed to be a compact/sturdy dog under all the hair. If you put your hands on him under the hair, can you barely feel his ribs or do they feel like they are sticking out? Has the vet been concerned about his weight? They another of the breeds that you have to be careful about over-feeding. They are prone to getting fat very easily.

Some dogs tend to not want to eat when it is hot. You might try feeding him early morning and later in the evening when it is cooler outside.

Some dogs for unknown reasons go off their food for a short while when they are about a year old.

If he is acting like you expect him to act and going to the bathroom, keep an eye on him but don't be too concerned. If he shows signs of distress, pain, stops eating and/or drinking or has a major change in his pottying, contact his vet.

One other thought, like many of the smaller breeds, they tend to have issues with their teeth. It might be an idea to have his vet check his teeth if he seems to be swallowing his food whole/barely chewing or not using his mouth to play with his toys.
