Due to an electrical fire in the basement of this rental unit the building was made inhabitable and all the resident's belongings were destroyed. The Landlord paid for the resident to go to a hotel for three days but says they can not do any more. Does the landlord have any responsibilities to the renter in a situtaion such as this? The Renter was not responsible for any of the damages.

Note:
1) Renter did not have Renters Insurance, and understands replacement of her belongings is her responsibility
2) Is the Renter entitled to the full refund of their Security Deposit?
3) Is the Renter entitled to a rent refund from the date of the fire to the end of that month?

The landlord is responsible for providing alternate housing while the building is repaired. If the repairs took three days then that should have been sufficient. No rental refund is required because housing was provided for the interim.

The Security Deposit doesn't even come into play as it secures the landlord against damages caused by the tenant prior to vacating.
