Our dog, Indiana, has recently started to act very clingy. He wantHs to be near us at almost all times. He cries pitifully if we leave for any length of time. Luckily, my sisters live upstairs and they generally take him upstairs if it gets too bad. I do not want to medicate him. He is the best, most loving dog. Has always been high energy, loves his toys, afraid of fireworks and thunder, curious, eager to please. Due to health issues, my husband spent a lot of time in the hospital and I was away for long periods. He never liked it but he and our cat both handled it pretty well. A year ago we moved from Florida to Cape Cod. He and Sunday (the cat) love everything about their new house, the big yard and the weather. He's done well until the last two weeks... about the time I started taking him for walks to help him lose weight (per vet's advice). He loves his walks and would go forever if he could. I don't want to stop the walks and I don't want to medicate him but I do not know what to do.

You know you just have to give him time to adjust to his new surroundings. There is no medication for this anyway, and would only give him further anxiety issues Does he have the toys that he played with at the old place ? Does he have the same bed ?

What breed of dog is Indiana ?

Something has stressed him. Rhe move and the walks are probably not the cause, anything else change? Walks are neede for nearly all dogs, sounds like he needs a slightly reduced dinner. Have you changed his food lately?
