I have an old American Standard 3 handled tub and shower setup. I have repaired this many times over the years with no problem, until now. I don’t know the age of the fixture but I moved in the house in 1984 and it was done before that. I replaced the hot and cold valves and seats and it still leaks from shower head and spigot.

I then replaced the shower diverter valve and seat, still leaks. The man at the hardware store sold me a Danco 11C-1D which I installed, but I think perhaps this isn’t the correct valve as it specifically says that it doesn’t have a seat and I know valve that was in there before did. I can’t compare it with the old valve as I had let my grandkids live in the house for a couple of years since I moved out and I think that they put a regular hot/cold stem in.

I'm about at my wits end. I can’t tell the exact model of the fixture, as it’s behind a wall that I just finished tiling. I really don’t want to have to tear down the entire new tiling job and replace the works which requires a plumber and retiling the wall behind the tub.

I can’t see anything wrong with the part in the wall, no stuck pieces etc. and the seats are new. Does the leak have anything to do with the diverter valve or is that a red herring and the leaks come from either the hot/cold valves, or is it something else? I’ve tried it with Teflon and without Teflon tape, it still drips. It drips from both the spigot and the showerhead. Funny thing is that it will continue dripping even with the supply cut off behind the tub; it only stops when the water is cut off at the main.

The only thing I can think of that I haven’t tried is taking out the seat in the shower valve, but I don’t know that that would do any good. I’m beginning to think that maybe the hot/cold valves are not correct even though they thread in fine and set outwhere they should
