I just starting taking 10mg of provera because I was on a 7+ month period that would not stop so the dr put me on this to stop the bleeding and to restart my cycle to have normal periods...

My question is could I get pregnant once I'm done with the 10 days? I have been trying to get pregnant for a few years with no luck and 26yrs old.. I knew my boyfriend is fertile he already had a few kids..

If you had a similar problem and used this was you able to conceive??

Hi heather,

If you are ovulating you could get pregnant after ending the Provera, but keep in mind that the Provera is meant to help with progesterone levels and regulate irregular cycles, it doesn't necessarily effect whether you are ovulating. Generally, if you have regular periods, you are also likely to be ovulating on a regular basis. When you have irregular cycles, you may not be ovulating at all, or may also be ovulating irregularly.

The Provera may help get things going again, or you may find that you start missing periods again. You can expect a period usually within several days after ending the round of Provera. This doesn't mean you ovulated however as the Provera sort of forced the period, but it also doesn't mean that you won't ovulate at some point.

There may come a time when further testing is necessary depending on how things go.

I went to the er the other day because I had a nonstop period for 7 months.. the dr did blood work and a pap.. both came back good he said my cervix looked find so he gave me provera to stop the bleeding... now I have been reading about females getting provera to start a period.. so is it going to keep me going or stop it? My other question is how many females had been able to get pregnant I've been trying for some years with no luck I'm sure it had to do with irregular period so will the provera get me normal to where I may be able to? I've always figured I was just not able to get pregnant... any thoughts??
Thanks

Heather,

Since you have been trying to conceive for a few years, and have been experiencing irregular cycles, I would see your doctor to discuss some initial fertility testing to be done. Certainly the first step would be to see if your cycles can be regulated, which the Provera might do, so see how that goes. But if it doesn't result in a change, definitely speak to your doctor. If necessary, a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist may be in order.
