I had a hysterectomy on June 16 and kept both ovaries, from all of my understandings I should have very minimal hormonal issues. Most important I am excessively emotional and its becoming ridiculous. I cry all the time. Also hot flashes have been fairly rough but dealing with them. My doctor did prescribe ativan 1 mg to help with the anxiety issue but is really not helping much.

What is the question?

If you're concerned that you're feeling too emotional, don't be. Hormones aren't the only reason you could be feeling the way you do. It's a big life change to have a hysterectomy and it's understandable to think you might feel anxious, depressed, etc. afterwards.

Hi amie,

As LearningAsIGo said, just the impact of having a hysterectomy can cause many different emotions. While some women may experience minimal hormonal issues, others will not. Estrogen often does start to diminish even when the ovaries are not removed, and it can be enough to experience some of the more common menopausal symptoms.

In addition to medication or supplements, many women will find just getting out and getting some regular exercise is helpful.
