I have a new Hunter ceiling fan. I installed it last night and it was working fine on medium speed when I went to bed. During the night I pulled the chain and bumped the speed up to the fastest. I awoke a short time later to the smell of oil on something hot. I turned the fan off and put my hand on top of the motor shroud and it was very hot.
The fan is wired to turn the light on with a wall switch and the pull chain to adjust the fan speed. The power comes to the fan first and then to the switch for the lights. All grounds are connected. The incoming hot wire (BLK) is connected to fan power (BLK) and the light switch (WHT). The incoming neutral wire (WHT) is connected to the fan neutral (WHT). The switch Hot wire (BLK) is connected to the fan light (BLU).
Any ideas why it is getting so hot?
