Hi, I've been bleeding for 19 days, visited my doctor last week she told me to do a pregnancy test as could be early signs of pregnancy. SURELY NOT BLEEDING FOR THIS LONG... so confused right now considering it's the 6th of June now, doing a test first thing tomorrow morning, then going to ring dr back up with outcome, anyone else had same?

Hi browneyes,

I'm surprised that she didn't do a test in the office while you were there. While some bleeding may happen in early pregnancy, it usually isn't constant. Try the pregnancy test and see what results you have. If not due to pregnancy, see your gynecologist, who will likely do an ultrasound and exam to determine another cause. There can be various reasons for continued bleeding, such as a hormone imbalance, uterine polyps, etc.

If you've been having sex, then yes, it could be pregnancy, but it would be uncommon for there to be consistent bleeding. I just find it odd that pregnancy would be her first thought for prolonged bleeding. Perhaps she just wants to know before checking for other possible reasons if necessary. Although, again she could have done a test right in the office and found out while you were there.

Are you bleeding, as in similar to a period, or is it more spotting?

Ah, so more spotting or light discharge than bleeding. See what the pregnancy test shows. The light spotting would be more likely to be associated with early pregnancy than if it had been actual bleeding. Although, again, there can be a number of possible reasons besides pregnancy.

Hey, just been to the doctors. Was given Norethisterone tablets to stop the bleeding. Which I have to take 3 a day for 2 weeks. As soon as course of tablets are finished was told I will get a period a couple days after stopping taking them and then my periods should be back to normal. Hopefully they do the job. X

Sorry to hear about the negative result, but once your cycles get back on track, pregnancy will be easier to achieve. Good wishes that you won't have to try too much longer!
