My son is buying his first house. He is thinking of making an offer on one but I am concerned that the drain hole in the basement has been covered over with concrete.
His house inspector says he has seen drain holes filled with material to reduce odors coming from it, but has never seen one covered with concrete before. My son has looked at many, many houses over the past couple of months and really likes this one. I have been the one pointing out potential problems and don't want to try to hold him back on another house unless it's really necessary (some mothers may understand this). I hope someone can give me the correct answer!

His house inspector says he has seen drain holes filled with material to reduce odors coming from it, but has never seen one covered with concrete before. what would that material be if not cement? Back up North if wanted to vinyl or carpet a basement we stuffed wet rags to block it off and the filled the floor drain with cement leveling off the basement floor. No bad smells or backups. So what are your concerns? Regards, Tom
