Hi just looking for some advice, was due af on Wednesday still no sign, I have sore breasts and some slight cramps at right side of ovary. Took an asda hpt the day it was due and another one 2 days late and the doctors did a urine test 5 days late all negative done another asda hpt today 8 days late still negative? Has anyone else had this and actually been pregnant? Been trying to conceive for 4 months and af always on time usually.

You could be testing too early and incorrectly. The best time to test is the first urine of the morning, it is far more concentrated and has more of the hormone that is being tested for. The best day to test is about two weeks after your period should have started. Before that point the tests become less accurate and you get more false negative.

As well you should look into what could be causing your period to be late, stress and illnesses are major ones. The stress is a big one especially if you're trying to conceive. As well there are some women who will test negative well into their pregnancy. Keep a positive attitude and test again in about a week.

Good Luck.

I agree, most urine tests may not show correctly for at least two week late. So you are testing way, way to early. Next on urine tests some women (but not many) may not show pregnant by urine tests until the 2nd month.

A urine test should always be done, first thing in the morning, when you wake up, with first urine of the day. ( for best results)

Why did the doctor not do a blood test, that is the best way to determine

Many women will test positive within a week after a missed period, but many others will find it takes a bit longer to get picked up on a urine test. Most often this is due to when you happened to ovulate since that will effect the timing of implantation which will in turn effect the level of hcg (the hormone associated with pregnancy). In many situations there is enough hcg in urine by two weeks after ovulation. This is because it usually takes about 6-12 days for implantation. The majority of women will have implantation occur on the earlier side... which is also thought to produce a better chance for a successful start to the pregnancy.

Give it several more days, and if still no period, either try another urine test or ask your doctor about having a blood test done. A blood test will pick up a pregnancy sooner than a urine test. Hopefully you and your partner will be fortunate and conceive fairly early, but do keep in mind that it can naturally take many months, and for some couples a year or more, to become pregnant when trying.

Difficult to do when trying to conceive, but do your best to focus on enjoying each other, making healthy lifestyle changes if necessary, and try not to get too discouraged if it takes awhile.
