I had tests in early May that involved x rays and using radioactive iodine, in my uterus and fallopian tubes. I took a pregnancy test a few days before all this and it was negative. A week later it was positive. I am now 12 weeks pregnant which means I was 5-6 weeks pregnant when I had the tests and I didn't know. I am sick with worry that I will have to terminate my baby. We had been trying for 2 years then this has happened.

My GP and midwife don't seem too worried and say it is too early to check for defects. I had 1 scan at 10 weeks they said it looked fine but it is early days. Can anyone help me please? Do you know if this happens a lot? Also I have heard it can cause cancer in childhood years even if the baby is born healthy.

Does it happen a lot? Probably not. It is a waiting game, but know that x-rays have become safer and safer in the last few decades. More sensitive receiving plates have meant that a lower dose of radiation is required and for less time. The radioactive iodine could be trouble, but if your doctors aren't too concerned than you shouldn't be. All you can do is wait and see for later ultrasounds. My prayers are with you.
