I was plugging in a curling iron into my bathroom gfci outlet this morning and all of the lights and outlets on that circuit went off. The reset button is not working - it doesn't click and stay in when depressed. I replaced with a basic duplex receptacle and still have no lights or working outlets on that circuit

If the entire circut went down then it is possible you also have a GFCI breaker installed. Not just an outlet. Did you check your breakers ?

Did you check the breaker in your breaker box to see if it was tripped? An overloaded circuit may trip the breaker before the GFCI. Example, if you have a home where the Circuit feeds more than the GFCI outlet, the whole circuit could be overloaded and the GFCI only see a portion of that overload or respond slower to it. The GFCI advantage is faster tripping in fault conditions, not necessarily in overload conditions.

Also, I had one stupid house, had one bathroom GFIC wired though the other bathroom, and the other GFCI plug... should not be, but one option also.
As noted, did you start at the breaker box?
