My jantirol heat pump when the thermostat is in the off position the reversing valve in the heat pump hums and is hot. If I turn the breaker off in the handler space then it stops. That circuit breaker is the only thing that stops it. The cutoff next to the heat pump will not stop the hum and getting hot. I have tried to run it in cool and heat for some time but that did not help. About ready to just change the heatpump. I know jantirol don't make heat pumps any more, also I have a 7 day programmable white-rogers model 1F92-71 therosmat that has been installed for about 5 years. Hope someone can help.

Yes they do it is now called Goodman manufacturing and they are one of the largest manufactures. The hum is being caused because the valve is energised. It is somewhat a normal noise. Could be you have a real loud one and if that's the case you said you were going to replace it anyway.

If it hums, its working the way it should. Turn power off to the heat pump and adjust the reversing valve coil,it may be loose making a louder noise than normal. Its hard to say with out hearing it.
