Hi,today I was on my asus laptop with Windows 7 installed (replacing windows vista business that was originally installed) and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
My mom uses windows and I usually use ubuntu (for games).
Today my mom used the computer and passed it to me.I stayed on windows for a while then restarted my computer as usually to boot up ubuntu. But instead of booting the default windows grub to choose between the two OS's,my windows recovery boots,so I click recover and it recovered to 100%.It then asks to reboot,so I do,and then,(I had no ubuntu or grub like before,it automatically boots)i was brought to the windows vista business first installation and config screen,Please help because my mom had A lot of important files, please tell me a solution to this (I am currently punished cause my mom thought I was responsible for this) Thank You!

WHen you clicked recover from the recovery screen... you basically wiped everything that was there by reformatting the partition and reintalling windows.

Quite honestly at this point... if you have to ask what to do and how to do it... its probibly beyond your ability to recover much if anything if there was even a chance.

This is why your supposed to make occasional backups of your (and moms) data. You can try using recovery software to see if it can find any files on the free space of the drive, but you'll have to save anything you find to a different drive (even a flash drive will do) If you try saving to the same drive you risk overwriting the data your trying to recover.
