98 chevy venture starts runs fine . Next time won't start. Then for no reason it will start and run fine.

YOu need to take this to a mechanic... there are literally too many possible causes to list them all without missing any. From Fuel system to electrical system problems including the ECU.

But they would start with checking for any codes to see if any are there.

This could be all sorts of things...it could be a starter going bad, a bad ignition switch, a bad ground, a bad fuel pump, a bad ICM...there is just so much that "it starts and then it doesn't start" is just entirely too broad to pin it down to one thing. Can you tell us more?

It's likely a failing Ignition Control Module, assuming it's a "crank but won't start situation." I recommend replacing this problematic component every 125,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. This is an easy DIY job--simply mount your existing coil packs on a new Ignition Control Module, after disconnecting the negative battery cable.
