I am 41 yrs old. 3 days ago I woke up to severe tenderness and pain in both my breasts. They are very heavy and extremely tender to touch. Over 3 days time they have gained close to a full cup size. They are almost feverish to the touch at times and the blood vessels are Blue and very noticeable since this all come about. My areolas have also become puffy looking. Today I had a dark gray discharge from my left breast and the pain and discomfort is starting to radiate into my armpits. I need to knoiw how concerned I should be and what could possibly be causing my grief? They are so heavy feeling at times that it causes them to be even more tender when they are moved. Wearing a bra is extremely uncomfortable and therefore have to support them with my hands when walking to help with the pain. I am desperate for answers but did not want to jump the gun with a doctors appt if it was not felt to be necessary. What do you recommend for me to do?

I would have gone to my doctor yesterday. We have no way to diagnose this online. Please let us know what your doctor says. Best wishes!

Thank you.. But I'm new to this area and do not have a regular physician here yet. I am several hours away from my old one.

I'd make it a priority to find one ASAP... its something you need to do anyway.

I would take this very seriously. Sadly there are no doctors on this site, and even if there were, there's really no way for a doctor to diagnose online just by symptoms. An examination is needed.

Are you in the US? Canada? Elsewhere? Maybe we can help you find a doctor in your area if you give us your general location (no address, just city, state, province, country, general area).

I'd make seeing a doctor a priority, yesterday.

Im in the Arlington TX area.. The pain is bothersome enough that I am tempted to vosit the ER and let them refer me to the correct specialist. Breast cancer has hit every generation in my family so that is always a great concern

A trip to the ER is not a bad idea. Waiting sucks, but I have a feeling that if you did have a family doctor, you'd likely end up being referred to a specialist anyway. So a trip to the ER is what I'd do.

Please let us know how it goes, keep us posted. I'm hoping you get good news. Remember not to worry until you have a reason to worry, but worry enough to get it checked out ASAP.

That's speaking from one cancer generation to another. Everyone I've lost, two parents, a father in law, a mother in law, two grandmothers, a great grandmother, and more, all due to cancer. Hubby and I are not passing down the best genes to our kids. We know that we'll very likely die of cancer one day. It seems to be inevitable. But we get checked, we do everything we can, and most of all, we don't worry until there's a reason to.

Keep your spirits up. Don't assume the worst. If you need to talk, there are tons of people on this site that are here to listen, and help as much as we can.

I wish you the best of luck. :)

That's why we're here, all of us. It's what we do. We're here to help, and if we can, it's a blessing. Sadly it's not always easy to help, especially online.

I'm hoping you'll keep us posted, otherwise I will worry about you. That's part of posting here too, worrying about those you can't help, and hoping the update you on how they're doing.

Please do not go to the ER if you are seeking a referral and you are not experiencing an emergency, which this does not appear to be. The over-burdened ER is not the place for this type of service.

Do not delay in seeking a doctor's care. However, Urgent Care, family practice or a GYN are the three options you should look into. As long as your health insurance allows it, go straight to a GYN to make an appointment without going to a family practitioner first. That will save you time if you can skip going that route for a referral. If you have to get the referral, go to a PCP(family practice) to get one. Urgent care can also act as the family practice will, however, they will not establish records on you because they wouldn't expect to see you again for the same issue. So, it is best to get yourself into a "real" doctor's office. When you make the appointment, describe your symptoms and the urgency of being seen. If they make you wait more than a few days, keep calling around to other offices until you get a quicker response.

I don't say this to worry you, but based on what you describe, I'd hate to think you'd put off getting good care.

Good luck to you
