My grinder pump just started running continiously and I see a little water on top of tank . What could be wrong?

Hi Giniki2
If the pump is running continuously, that would suggest a few things to me:
1) The impeller could be snagged on something that got into the pit (baby wipes, tooth floss, rags, etc.)
2) The float switch could be stuck in the on position (this is least likely issue as you said you saw water at the top of the tank lid).
3) The drain line is clogged or the check valve in the discharge line from the grinder is stuck in the closed position.
Unfortunately, the only way to see what is happening is to open the grinder pit and see what is going on. If your grinder pit has an access hole for an electrical cord you can try prying that up and see if you can see water or push the float down with a stick (unplug grinder pump) if it is caught in the up position. Otherwise, the grinder pit cover will need to be removed, the pipes disconnected, and the pump impeller accessed and cleared of the blockage.
This is NEVER a fun job...UGH!
Back to you...

Consult a professional or take your defective pump to a service center. They are the best person to judge and rectify your problem quickly.

Hey SpaParts.
The reason people co9me to us is because they don't want to call in a professional but needs instructions on how to do it themselves. Telling someone to call a plumber or outside help isn't giving them a workable solution. Now, do you have a solution to give? Back to you. Tom

If you flush your toilet or whatever is connected to this pump does it pump out the water from the pit? If so I am going with stuck float switch.
