Kenmore washer will not do anything, it sounds like it wants to turn on for a second then just stops. I made sure it is plugged in, unplugged it and plugged it back in, I took the unwashed clothes out and tried all cycles, but other than coming on for a second it does nothing. It is only four years old. It is full of water that I will get out today.

If it has filled with water and then stopped your problem could be the water level control. It is a switch that power comes into and first goes to the water solenoid valves and when the pressure on the diaphragm, via a plastic hose, gets high enough it switches over and sends power to a terminal on the timer and then to the motor and other devices. You will have to use a meter to check it out. Go buy a good digital multimeter from Home Depot, Lowe's, or Radio Shack, first. Here are the manuals you will need: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8010163/Understanding%20automatic%20washer.pdf

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8010163/How%20to%20Diagnose%20and%20Fix%20Everything%20Ele ctronic.pdf (This one has a chapter on using meters that is good.)
You will find it easy to fix your washer using a meter since you do not have to guess.

My Kenmore washer fills up with water but does wash, just makes a noise like it wants to start. It is only four years old.

I had the same problem and found this:

Easy fix for me. Not sure if you are having the same issue but it's something to look at.

Since your hearing noise, I would check the drive coupling on the motor.

You definitely need to check the lid switch, too. It is one of the safeties. If it came apart like the one on YouTube you should epoxy it and use a wire tie as shown. The epoxy will keep out the water, so carefully seal it all around the switch.
