I'm installing a gas stove up to an L.P. line.
Using pipe dope on the fittings, will the ribbon type dope like on water fittings work?

Hi Kevin

I don't understand what "ribbon type dope" is? There is pipe dope and there is Teflon tape and there is gas piping tape...which are you asking about? If you are asking about gas piping tape then it should be a YELLOW tape (see image) and YES, that is acceptable to be used with LP or natural gas.

Further, if you are hooking LP to a stove, is the stove rated for LP gas or for natural gas? If the stove was previously used for natural gas then you will need the LP gas orifices to be swapped over (should be taped on back of stove if you are lucky and need them).

You should also have an ANTI.-TIP bracket/hanger with the stove (see image of a typical anti.-tip device). Please be sure to install this device as it SAVES LIVES!!!

Back to you...

Mark brings up a very good point. I see too many gas fittings with White Teflon. However, you must use Yellow Teflon on gas lines.
