Need help w/ shallow well pump I bought at harbour freight, do I need a check valve on intake and output sides of the pump? When pump power goes out I hear the pump maybe running backwards weird sound, will this harm my pump, also is there a video or a help person to rebuild this pacific hydro star shallow wel pump it's the 1 in. pump... hope you all can help... thanks boosterpump

Sounds like you have a shallow well pump, one line goes into the well and the other goes to your tank. Is that right? If so, then you should have a foot valve in the well. If that's the case, then that is your checkvalve and you don't need another, assuming it is working.
Let's find out. To prime the pump, there is a plug, or maybe a pressure gauge, on top of the impeller cage. Remove that and pour in water until it will hold no more. Watch a minute. The level of water should stay steady. If so, them replace the plug and turn on the pump. You should get water.
Never heard of a pump running backwards.
If you need a manual, or advice on the pump, try going to the Harbor Freight website or do a search for the model # of the pump. Come back with the model name and manufacturer and I'll give it a shot if that would be helpful.
