Hi Jan
The state water heater number you put up doesn't register as valid with State industries. Check the number and then click on this link and then load your serial number into the box on the page...should tell you what year the heater was manufactured and if the water heater I sunder warranty, OK?
https://warranty.hotwater.com/HeaterInfo/HeaterSearch.aspx?
If entering your serial number doesn't work then simply contact state water heaters and see what they can tell you:
State Industries | Customer Service | Cross Reference Guide (http://www.statewaterheaters.com/services/customer_support/)
Finally, I think that is an AO smith serial number and AO smith company is actually part of state water heaters, so if you contact State they will know your answer quickly!
