My 2000 VW Passat shows solid (not flashing) dashboard indicator light relating to emissions. My local mechanic, self-admittedly not a VW expert, hooks the car to his diagnostic machine and tells me this is the problem (relating to short circuit to B+), and if I don't get it fixed, I won't pass inspection next time around. He also says the repairs will run over $2000. Questions are:
1. Could this code be related to the emissions recall posted a couple of years ago?
2. What needs to be done for this repair? Best to go to the dealer at this point?
I should mention the car has 25K miles, and there are no other signs of mechanical failure while driving the car.
Thanks for your time.
