I'm in Indiana and have an outside job to paint, what is the rate per sq. ft for one coat and no prep.

Hi Frickster

This site cannot help with pricing of jobs as there are just too many unknowns involved. Perhaps you could try talking to the people at your local paint supply store...they may have an idea of costs in your area, but I advise you to be careful with this approach as it can lead to less than satisfactory pay when the job is finalized! A better approach would be to start by working on smaller jobs and work your way up to larger jobs. In this way you can learn exactly what your rate is per square foot and you can be sure you make the money YOU need to make, not what someone else thinks you should make. Make sense?

Total cost of materials plus total cost of labor* plus expected profit divided by total square feet will give you the cost per square feet.

*Total cost of labor is an estimate of hours times wage times number of workers. Actual numbers are subject to conditions.

Do your homework carefully or your profit margins are seriously at risk with unseen over runs if calculations are too low. As MP said, choice of materials and the skills of the workers is going to be a very crucial calculation, where things like weather, and the type of material to cover can screw you over.
