Went to take a shower the other day and water was accumulating in the bathtub as wasn't really draining well. When I stepped out of the shower found there was water all over bathroom floor. The tub did drain out slowly and I was able to mop up the water with towels. I checked the sink drain and lines and didn't appear that water leaked from there. Only thing I can think is water was coming from base of toilet. Is this possible? If not what else could it be and how can I fix it?

Hi Cgerard

Fill the bathtub 1/2 way and then release the water and see if water comes out the base of the toilet again. If water does come out the base of the toilet then the large drain line is clogged and will need to be snaked to clear the PARTIAL BLOCKAGE. As the toilet wax ring has been disturbed you'll also need to plan on installing a new wax gasket once the clog has been cleared. You could rent a drain machine for 3" or larger drain line and pull the toilet and snake the drain through that pipe and then reset the toilet using a new wax ring, or if there is a cleanout under the bathroom you can access the drain/clog through that and fix the toilet wax ring after the clog is cleared.

If you can confirm a blockage and you plan to try to unclog the drain yourself, pop back so we can present some helpful tips to make the job go a little easier for you, OK?
