I have a 20 year old Symmons Temptrol Model A bath/shower faucet that recently started dripping cold water. I replaced the spindle, and it still drips the same with no change. It is installed in a second home where the water is shut off for several months at a time. The seating surface inside the valve, which contacts the rubber seal at the end of the spindle looks fine and has no obvious pitting. Rotating the handle as tight as I can to shut off the water does nothing to stop the dripping flow of water.

Is there something I can do to stop this dripping flow of cold water other than to chop a hole in the adjacent wall and replace this valve?

Thanks, Walter.

Hi Walter

Although the hot and cold seat look and feel good the valve is so old that the seats have worn down and need to be replaced. Symmons sells seat removal tools and they are definitely needed to remove the seats.

That should get the valve to finally stop dripping for you...
