View Full Version : The Great Global Warming Debate

First let me state that I don't hold ALGOR or his scientific credentials in high esteem. I recently did a Google search for "The Great Global Warming Swindle", and viewed a compelling 75 min video, and several others on both sides of the issue. The fact that CO2 is but .35% of the Earth's atmosphere, as compared to water vapor (another greenhous gas) which is about 4%, and that man's contribution to CO2 might be about 5%, leads me to conclude that ALGOR's efforts are a means to enrich himself (last night he garnered a $100K + expenses fee for a speech at ASU), and to rub elbows with the Hollywood Glitterati. In a 40 min video at the same site, it is shown how the data to support ALGOR's "hockey stick" graph has been manipulated to prove his point: early CO2 data is taken from ice core samples at sea level, while air samples for recent years are taken atop a volcano, at almost 14,000 ft. el. Data also seems to show that increases in CO2 are caused BY increaes in temperature, with a lag of about 800 years. I have tried to discuss these things with and old high school chum who I believe is now a devout Socialist. He tends to get mad and go on a tirade about the evils of GWB. I am just seeking some logical input, pro or con. Thank you

CO2 may only make up a small percentage of the atmosphere but it is a very delicate balance very small changes can have great effects. It is true that the earth is heating up on its own without our input the problem is that it is heating up so quickly, we are excellerating the problem! The earth heating up is usually buffered by a number of different mechanisms, but we have effected these buffering techniques, the rainforest polluting the ocean CFC's. That is where the problem lies.
