I'm planning to buy a engagement ring for my fiancée. Is it okay to buy jewellery online or should I just to a shop.

I would suggest you visit reputable jewellery stores for this item where the ring can be authenticated. Do you not have any in your vicinity?

I agree with Tickle... buying online you run the risk of lead infused electroplated pot metal junk instead of whts advertized. Spend the extra money and buy from a local shop that has a reputation to uphold and could be held responsible if they misrepresent the product.

Okay thanks. I did some research and found ebay.com very genuine and trustworthy website. But I guess I will spend some money and buy it from a local shop. Can't trust any website while buying jewellery online.

ebay doesn't sell anything to anyone... you have a bunch of anonymous people selling things, eBay only provides a place for them to do it... some of them are crooks... some of them honest. All of them difficult to deal with when you get something that is misrepresented. I've been burned a few times on eBay... and I've had good experiences on others... its a risk you take. The higher the value the higher the risk.

Jewlery is extremely risky....you might be expecting to buy solid gold...but get something thats only electroplated. How would you the buyer know right away? Before the electroplating wears off or peals off?

Can you identify a real diamond from a nearly worthless synthetic? See my point? Buying some clothes or other items is one thing....Jewlery is another.

Good.. they aren't ALL dishonest... but some are. If you are anything like me... its a risk you can't afford to make.

Yes... I see you have... One I think you will feel good for making. Sometimes peace of mind is worth a few extra dollars.

Thank you... and for others reading this thread I would even be hesitant to buy low value costume jewlery online due to to the number of recalls over the years of Chinese made stuff containing dangerous levels of Cadmium and lead. Which can be absorbed through the skin.

THe FTC can't issue a recall for stuff shipped from overseas.

According to me you should go to a famous and trustworthy jewellery shop. If you want to purchase online then you can visit some repudiated sites. It will surely help you.
