I recently did something extremely stupid at my local casino, I got a bit drunk and stole someone's coat... I left the coat and the coats most valuables (cell phone) there in a restaurant but I accidentally left some keys in my pocket, the cops came to my house and questioned me, I told them I left the stuff there and gave the keys back.
I was charged with theft under $5000, he said he made a note of me being so cooperative, if that means anything.
I'm in Canada so... What could happen? What do I do? Should I get a lawyer and try to work something out because if I get a record my life will suck even more, so many jobs I won't be able to get. My court date is in 5 weeks, but I go in for finger prints in a few days (what does that mean)
My parents are really... really disappointed and pissed, if its not drugs its gambling, I'm ridden with anxiety and depression, I decided to go to a depression clinics 3 week program...
What now cancer?

Yes get a lawyer and I hope you didn't admit anything to cops. First rule no matter how nice they are do not admit anything. It sounds like you already did though, so a lawyer can get you some kind of plea bargain. Keep your nose clean and keep up with the therapy

Oh and look, in a few years this will just be a bump in the road.

Thanks man I really appreciate it. Ironically enough my coat was lost/stolen at that same damn casino just a few days ago (before my incident) and I didn't get no damn police investigation.
Anyway, they have it on camera, I honestly thought I wouldn't get caught and wouldn't care about a damn coat, especially if I didn't keep it. Soooo ****ing stupid, that poor bastard must have came back and said where the **** is my coat?

I agree, that is probably what he said. I know I would have said that.
Everyone who gets arrested has their fingerprints taken, so don’t sweat that.
As for your trial, contact a lawyer. Since this is your first offence, a good lawyer can help you work out a plea bargain so you won’t get a criminal record.

Its illegal to put cameras (even for casinos) in bathrooms right? That's where I went though the coat.. ugh (im never drinking again)

So you stole the coat in the bathroom?
Depending on where the camera was placed in the bathroom, it might have been okay.
If it wasn't placed in a stall or close to a urinal where people can be seen naked, I think the cameras are OK. I do not fully know the law on that.
I would suspect that is why most store just don't put cameras in the bathroom at all. (or change rooms for that matter)

Ok get that lawyer, and while of course he can not have you lie in court, a coat is not a big deal, he can try and talk to them and see if they will accept that it was a error and you were drunk.
I don't believe much will happen about it, ( may want to do the AA thing to stop drinking) if you read about 1/2 of the legal issues they start with I was out drinking, We had stopped ot have some drinks, there is some relationship here I think.
But in the aspect of things a minor convicton like this, will have or should have lttle effect after a few years.
