Hello,

I am an international student on F1 visa. I filed my taxes for year 2013 through intuit turbotax and then after they were accepted I found out that it does not support 1040 NR EZ which I'm required to file. Also I filed my MA state tax through it. I want to know what amends I need to make.

Thanks,

Shailesh Tendulkar

Yours is a common error among international student.

The Massachusetts return is probably okay, but you need to submit Form 1040X with a properly-prepared Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ with the word "AMENDED" printed on the top of the first page, plus a copy of the first page of Form 8843.

Depending on your home country, you may have to pay more tax, pay nothing, or get a small refund.

If you need professional help with this, please email me at the email address in my profile.

Thanks a lot. I filled the right form yesterday and found out that I have received $61 extra. Should I wait until my new forms are accepted and then pay the amount to IRS? Can I make this payment online using a debit/credit card?

If you owe $61 as a result of the amendment, send a $61 check WITH the amendment to avoid any late payment fees. Make the check to UNITED STATES TREASURY.
