Purchasing a home with a sewage pump system. I can't say what kind it is, have not found out yet.
When entering the basement an odor is detected, I'm wondering if a vent at the sump could be the problem. There is what appears to be some kind of vent pipe with an odd shaped head on it coming out off the pit lid. Don't know if this is an intake vent or if it should be vented outdoors. Any help is appreciated.

Your system has two vents, One on the fixtures entering the system and a dedicated vent that runs out t6he roof without connecting back into the house system. The reason being that while the house vents pull in air to combat suction the pit vent expels sewer gas as t5he fixtures drain or flush it also pulls in air as the system pumps it out of the pit. If the pit vent"s blocked it will expel sewer gas out in your house. Also check the seal on the pit lid. Good luck, Tom

Sounds like they used AAV, or Studor vent for a pit, that is incorrect and the source of the odor. Sewerage pit ejectors must be direct vented to the outside.
