Hello,

My well system has recently started producing low pressure. Pump was replaced 6 months ago, just replaced check valve, pressure switch and gauge a few days ago and the pressure tank was just replaced by pro plumbers. Pressure gauge was showing 10 psi before tank replacement and still shows 10 psi with new tank. Pump does not appear to constantly pumping, comes on when water is used. When water is off the pressure stays at 10 psi so there doesn't appear to be any leaks. Any Ideas?

Are you saying the pump is not running with pressure at 10?

Thank you for your reply.

When water is used, say turn a faucet on and the water runs and then the faucet is turned off. When running the water the pressure gauge goes to 0 and the pump starts running. Then after turning off the faucet which means no more water is running then the pump runs until the pressure gauge shows 10psi and stops. Pressure stays at 10psi until the next time water is used.

It sounds like the switch has problems. When the pump cuts off at 10#, pull the cover off the switch and check the breaker points. If they are open (not touching), then something is wrong with the switch. Is this a 20/40 switch? When you replaced the switch, did this problem start then, or only since then? One more question. Is the pump in the well or above ground?

You probably already know this, but just to be clear, it is the switch's job to cut the pump on/off at preset points of pressure. A 20/40 switch, for example, should come on at 20 and off at 40. Sounds like your comes on at near zero and off at 10.

When you replaced the switch, did you check the little pipe that connects to it to be sure it was open and clear?
