Amana "insta broil" self cleaning oven/range - natural gas - last (2) days strong 'exhaust' odor when turning on oven, or top burner. Flame is blue (not orange or red). This is not a 'rotten egg' odor, but more like fumes from a small gasoline engine. Oven is about 10 yrs. Old. Any ideas?

Having been in the appliance repair business for over 35 years I have received numerous complaints similar to what you're experiencing.
The problem in almost all cases stems from the fumes when someone is painting or staining some woodwork in any part of the house, not necessarily in the kitchen. The fumes which mix with an open flame gives an unusual odor, many times described as a "gassy" smell. Besides gas ranges, gas clothes dryers will deposit this smell into the dried clothes and you can definitely smell a very strong gas-type odor when you take the dried clothing from it.
In either case it is not dangerous and sometimes takes several weeks for the fumes to dissipate.
If you have done any kind of staining, painting or even gluing, then we have solved your problem.
