Hi,

I did home pregnancy test on Feb 15th, 2014 and it came negative but then it came positive on Feb 22nd, 2014. The first day of my last menstural period was '12/27/2013. The average length of my periods is 40-45 days. I started having pregnancy symptoms like 'fatigue, sleepiness, sore breast, mild cramping and nausea etc. On Feb 28th 2014, I noticed some spotting (pinkish brown discharge) on the tissue paper with mild cramps. I considered this as implantation bleeding. On Mar 1st 2014, mild cramps continued but I could now see bright red colored discharge becoming little heavier than before. By the evening of Mar 1st, I noticed that the bleeding has become even heavier and required a pad. I kept the pad in the evening and it lasted all night and in the morning I could see it drenched with blood. Also I passed some big clots which were a mix of blood and white color material. I got really scared since it seemed like a period. During all this heavy bleeding I didn't get any cramps - I just had mild headache, backache and weakness. Today, Mar 2nd, again I am using a pad since my bleeding is still heavy. Whenever I go and pee, I notice a huge amount blood going into the pot. I am not sure what's going on - is it normal or am I miscarrying? Please help me understand, I am too worried, I do not want this pregnancy to end.

Hi sgem,

While some bleeding in early pregnancy can be normal, it most often is not very heavy. Some women will, however, mistaken it for a period.

As you suspect, a miscarriage could be the reason for the continued bleeding. If you were to notice implantation spotting or bleeding (some women do, most do not), it would have been prior to your positive result as implantation would have already occurred.

I do have to ask, did you read the test result in the time frame stated on the pregnancy test? Some women mistakenly look at it after those early minutes and may find it appears positive, but it would not be accurate. In that situation, it could be that this recent bleeding is an off period.

Regardless, it would be best to see your doctor to determine the cause of the bleeding and to know for certain one way or the other.

I hope it turns out well... please do keep us informed.

DoulaLC, thanks a lot for replying.. Yes I did check the pregnancy test in the stated time of 2 minutes.
And I guess you are right in saying that my implantation could have occurred before the test came positive and this bleeding either could be miscarrying or an off period.
But when I had a doubt, I did search online if implantation bleeding can take place after the positive result and I could see many people suggesting that yes it could. That confused me more.
I don't have any severe symptoms (just mild cramps when I walk) but I am not sure if I should visit ER for this right now since it might leave a bad impact if it is miscarrying.
Should I be waiting till tomorrow to visit doctor?
Since this is my first pregnancy I am getting scared of all I am going through.

It is possible that the bleeding on the 28th was merely the start of the current bleeding. Have you already contacted your doctor today? They would want to confirm the pregnancy and obviously take a look at a possible cause for the bleeding.

Bleeding this heavy would not happen with a pregnancy. So it is most possible, that if pregnant, it is not viable and you are no longer. With that said, all of the signs are not normal for pregnancy till far after a missed period, and most pregnancy testing does not work till a week or two past a missed period.

A doctors visit should happen if the bleeding continues.

DoulaLC & Fr_Chuck, thanks for your responses and advising.
I did visit a doctor because my bleeding was getting heavier and heavier and I didn't wanted to take any risk. Unfortunately, I had an early miscarriage.
Doctor said that nothing went wrong from my side but it was some chromosomal mismatch which caused it. I felt very low and sad in the past 2 days but I am now trying to make myself understand that there was nothing that anyone could do to save it.
I am taking a healthy diet - rich in iron and calcium. I am still going through a lot of blood loss but it is now getting better. I feel weak but my husband has been my support and strength while I was going through this. He has done whatever he could to help me relax. I am so thankful to him.

So sorry to hear it. It is hard, even when knowing the reasoning. I'm glad to hear that you are eating well and that your husband is a source of strength. It all just takes time. I wish you well.
