From early 80's: main characters 1 boy 1 girl 1 drunken sailor kids are looking for something maybe their parents, they hire this jack sparrow kind of sailor, paying whit info about a lost room whit lots of ancient bottles of rum (or some good liquor) they end up as prisoners of some cannibal tribe and one old prisoner help them scape whit a rope made of human hair (again little to close to pirates of the Caribbean) this film was probably made by showtime, cinemax, hbo, or some TV film

Maybe have another look, the movie has most of the scenes you described: missing father, cannibals, rope made of human hair... There are some clips on YouTube.

It was re-released in 1978 which may be part of the confusion.

I have to admit that I don't recall cannibals in it, so it very well could be the other film suggested. I saw that in the theater when I was a little girl but don't recall enough about it to verify it. I remember a girl and her brother teaming up with an older man to find their "castaway" father. I remember an exhilarating slide through icy formations, a condor attacking them, hiding in a giant tree when pursued by natives in Africa and going through a flood while stuck in that tree. I'd love to see it again to see how many of my memories are intact.

Didn't find nothing to check that movie, but in search of the castaways looks pretty close maybe my movie is based on the Jules Verne book, but pretty sure the kids were helped by a hansolo kind of Dud, they pay him whit a stored of run barrels, and the movie was from the 80's. I see it in cable around and between enemy mine and Batman-1
