I was recently caught shoplifting at a Shoppers Drugmart. The loss prevention officer stopped me on the way out. The items were (of course) given back/recovered. The total value was about 100.00. It goes without saying this was an extremely thoughtless and STUPID thing for me to do and I -am- sorry for it. I was very calm and cooperative with the loss prevention officer and did everything she asked. My question is, what kind of sentence/punishment can I expect? Technically this will be my second charge... however, the first one occurred 15 years ago and that charge was deferred (I think the that's the term) and I was ordered to not to enter the store for at least two years. My question is, will this minor charge from 15 years ago affect my current case?? and if so, how much??
Thank you

You are in Canada, you don't say what province. You must say what country though because this is a international site.

We can't say what the judge will do when you go to court. Your previous conviction will still be available to them.

Keep your nose clean and you will never have to worry about next time. Thefts are what drive up prices for everyone.

Shoppers has an excellent security system.

Oh, sorry. I am in Ontario, Canada. This is my first time using this site. Also, as I said, this was an extremely thoughtless and STUPID thing for me to do and I -am- sorry for it. I know it was wrong and there really is no excuse for it.I realize the prior charge information will be available to the judge. To elaborate, I have read online that sentences can be more serious or severe if there are prior charges. However, my prior was 15 years ago, and was deferred. Also, it's not as if I have been having regular run-ins with the police since that time. So, I guess I'm asking will it really matter THAT much on my current charge?I know you can't say for sure what will happen, but what do you think is likely to happen?

Can't even tell you what is likely to happen. All depends on what side of the bed the judge gets up on. Dress well, be polite.
