Dr Bill 100,

I am an alcoholic on probation who relapsed this past Saturday.

I drank 3 pbr tall boys and a standard 12 oz beer between 11 am and 1 pm.

Fast forward to today (Tuesday) I was given an ETG at 10:30 am.

I am a 170 pound 6 ft male. I am active and lift weights 5 days a week.

What are my odds of passing this test. My anxiety is insanely high right now and I am deeply regretting my actions.

Thank you

Dr. Bill no longer posts on this site.

You are going to find out when the results come in for certain... anyones guesses have zero value.

Perhaps use this as a learning experience to join AA or seek help BEFORE you take the next drink if you manage to pass this time.

Honestly what more do you expect. They have a sensitivity between 60-80 hours. You're skating that line.

You're a self admitted alcoholic. You're on probation. You're either going to get help, by going to rehab or AA, or you're going back to jail.

What do you want to do?

Is treatment for your alcoholism part of your probation? Do you want to stop drinking?

I realize that alcoholism is considered a disease, and any addiction is very difficult to manage, especially on your own. You had a relapse. Hopefully you won't have to pay for that mistake by failing this ETG test (and there is a chance you're fail, you're on the cusp of the low end of what experts think the test will detect).

Are you in AA, are you getting any sort of help dealing with this addiction? I think it's time to look into that. If you pass, brush this off, realize that everyone fails in their lives at one time or another, and don't dwell on the past. Make sure that the future is different, that you get help dealing with this illness.

Good luck.

Guys, I know everyone wants to give me words of advice about alcohism, but I am not on here for this. I am simply asking for data. As you can see by the question, it doesn't mention asking for counseling or advice on treatment.

And you got it... the terms of service you agreed to specify you do not get to dictate the type of content of your answers... nobody has a crystal ball... those are the facts. What you are expecting would require a fuctional crystal ball and those don't exist.

Okay then. Some experts think that 60 hours is the cut off for detection of alcohol with an ETG. You're at 62, right on the cusp. The majority of experts believe that it's closer to 80 hours. So based on that, you'll likely fail.

Of course that's just a guess, which is all we can offer. Only the results of the test will determine which way it will go.

Good luck.

I did some research and you are wrong.

If by a majority of experts you mean no one but the companies who created the tests and based that number off detoxing chronic drinkers.

More recent and unbiased studies have been done showing a majority of people who drank at the level I did were clear after 48 hours. The majority of anecdotal evidence supports that as well.
