Hi, My boyfriend has had a call from the fraud dept connected with his bank saying that money has been taken from his account over the last 6 months and the only person who knows all his details is me but I'm not it. Is there any other explanation for this happening?

Another explanation might be that the call wasn't from his bank. It's a common scam to try to 'verify' personal information. If he did ANY of that, have him call his bank this instant. NOW!

It's a common scam...before you look into anything else, have him call the bank himself, explain what happened, and then go from there.

Hello t:

I think it's a scam too. The bank wouldn't be guessing about this. They'd KNOW.. Money just doesn't disappear from an account. There's a paper trail, there's a check, there's video at the ATM. Besides, the bank wouldn't know whether a debit is fraud or not, unless your boyfriend reported it.

Follow the advice from the others..

And banks seldom call anyone, unless he has already been working with the fraud department.

It depends on the bank. Our bank is very good about contacting us when a charge seems out of our regular pattern. However, they should have contacted him the first time they noticed unusual activity on his account.

Has he directly contacted his bank to make certain they made the call?

Has he checked his bank statements for the past six months to determine if there have been any unauthorized charges? If so, where they originated.

Or is he automatically accusing you?
