I have a RHEEM Criterion II furnace that just stopped working. The ignitor won't heat up. I have had the ignitor go on me in the past and thinking that was the problem, I replaced it with a new one (I was very careful not to touch it). It still does not heat up. When the thermostat calls for heat, the small fan kicks on for 30 sec or so, the ignitor stays cold, and then it shuts down. The gas never comes on.

I am fairly handy and if this is something I can further debug, I would really like to give it a try. I am planning to buy a volt meter first thing tomorrow.

I was hoping to get some advice on what else I might try to get it working or test to identify the problem.

Thanks!

You need to measure voltage being supplied to the ignitor. It is not unheard of to get a bad out of the box ignitor. You should get 120 volts AC to the ignitor during it's normal warm up time. If you are not getting voltage, you could have a bad ignition control or maybe a pressure switch has you locked out. Is the control flashing any sort of code?
